Hi, I’m Colleen, licence holder and proud owner of Pet Getaway.

I’ve spent over 50 years caring for dogs, with a lifelong passion for animal care that started at a very young age. Over the years, I’ve gained hands-on experience with a wide range of breeds, temperaments, and behaviours — from gentle giants to energetic companions.

My son Stuart is now a key part of the business. He supports everything from admin and web development to SEO, as well as helping care for the amazing dogs we welcome every day. Having grown up around dogs — including Great Danes that once towered over him — he’s always shared the same love for animals.

Pet Getaway was created to offer something different from traditional kennels — a calm, home-based environment where dogs feel safe, relaxed, and genuinely cared for at all times.

Whether your dog is energetic, anxious, or simply loves attention, we tailor our care to suit their individual needs, ensuring they feel right at home.

Colleen’s journey also includes working with Guide Dogs for the Blind, building a strong foundation in professional dog care. Throughout the years, she has owned and cared for many beloved breeds, including Great Danes and Golden Retrievers.

Today, our heart lies with Kole, our much-loved companion and the inspiration behind our logo — quite literally the heartbeat at our feet. His calm and patient nature reflects everything we stand for at Pet Getaway.
