This policy outlines the cleaning and hygiene procedures followed at Pet Getaway to maintain:
A safe and sanitary environment
Disease prevention
Odour control
Compliance with licensing regulations
High welfare standards
Cleanliness is maintained daily and monitored consistently.
The following tasks are completed daily:
Floors swept and mopped using pet-safe disinfectant
High-touch areas wiped down (door handles, gates, surfaces)
Dog bowls washed and disinfected after use
Bedding checked and changed if soiled
Crates and resting areas wiped clean
Spillages cleaned immediately
Separate cleaning cloths are used for:
Feeding areas
Dog areas
Human-only areas
Weekly (or more frequently if required):
Full floor disinfection
Skirting boards cleaned
Corners and hard-to-reach areas sanitised
Soft furnishings washed (minimum 60ยฐC where appropriate)
Storage areas checked and cleaned
Deep cleaning is recorded in the Cleaning Log.
If a dog shows signs of illness:
Isolation area used immediately
Separate cleaning equipment used
Area disinfected after use
Bedding washed separately
Gloves worn during cleaning
Isolation area is cleaned last to prevent cross-contamination.
Bowls washed after each feed
Raw food handled separately
Surfaces disinfected after preparation
Food stored in sealed containers
Hands washed before and after handling food
Dog waste removed minimum twice daily
Waste double-bagged and placed in secure bin
Garden checked for hazards before use
Standing water removed if present
Outdoor areas are inspected before dogs are allowed access.
Where applicable:
Hard outdoor surfaces rinsed and disinfected
Artificial grass (if applicable) cleaned regularly
Patio areas washed down as required
Cleaning frequency increases during:
Warm weather
High occupancy periods
Following illness
Bins emptied regularly
External bins cleaned weekly
Waste stored securely to prevent pests
No accumulation of faeces permitted
Pet Getaway uses:

Approved cleaning agents
Non-toxic solutions
Products suitable for use around animals
Cleaning chemicals are:
Stored securely
Kept out of reach of dogs
Used according to manufacturer guidance
Safety data sheets are available where required.
Handlers:
Wash hands before and after cleaning
Wear gloves when handling waste
Avoid cross-contamination between areas
Change cleaning materials between tasks
Enhanced cleaning measures are implemented when:
A dog shows signs of illness
There is suspected contagious disease
During high-risk seasonal periods
This includes:
Increased disinfection frequency
Temporary suspension of shared items
Additional monitoring
