This policy outlines how Pet Getaway monitors, records, and responds to changes in the physical and emotional health of dogs in our care.
Our objectives are to:
Detect illness or injury early
Prevent disease transmission
Protect overall group welfare
Comply with licensing requirements

Health monitoring is continuous and documented.
Each dog is visually assessed multiple times daily for:
Appetite and food intake
Water consumption
Toileting patterns
Vomiting or diarrhoea
Coughing or sneezing
Mobility and gait
Signs of pain
Coat condition
Eye and nose discharge
Energy levels
Withdrawal or isolation
Agitation or irritability
Excessive panting
Changes in interaction style
Any abnormal findings are recorded.
Food intake is monitored to identify:
Sudden refusal to eat
Reduced appetite
Excessive thirst
Toileting is monitored for:
Diarrhoea
Blood in stool
Straining
Changes in frequency
Persistent changes are investigated and owners informed.
If a dog displays signs of illness:
Dog may be separated from others
Symptoms monitored and recorded
Owner contacted promptly
Veterinary advice sought if necessary
Isolation procedures are implemented where contagious illness is suspected.
Minor injuries (e.g., small scratches) are:
Cleaned appropriately
Monitored
Documented
If injury is more serious:
Owner contacted immediately
Veterinary care sought if required
Incident recorded
Where medication is administered:
Written instructions required
Dosage recorded
Time administered logged
Adverse reactions monitored
We do not administer medication without written consent.
In a medical emergency:
Dog transported to nominated veterinary practice
Owner contacted immediately
Emergency contact used if necessary
Incident documented
Owner agrees to cover veterinary costs as per Terms & Conditions.
If contagious disease is suspected:
Immediate isolation
Enhanced cleaning
Suspension of shared items
Owner notification
Veterinary guidance followed

Incident Logs

Isolation Records (if applicable)
Records are retained in line with licensing requirements.
