Dog Boarding FAQs
Frequently asked questions
-
What is dog boarding?
- Dog boarding is overnight care for your dog in the home of a trusted local sitter while you’re away. Staying in a comfortable, home-style environment helps dogs feel relaxed and ensures they receive personalised care and attention tailored to their needs.
-
What to know before you board your dog?
- Before boarding your dog, choose a sitter you trust and make sure your dog is up to date on all vaccinations. Scheduling a trial day can help you see how your dog adjusts to the new environment. For more guidance on packing and preparation, refer to our dog boarding checklist.
-
Which dog boarding options offer a Meet & Greet?
- Every dog boarding sitter can offer a Meet & Greet prior to booking. Reach out to sitters you’re considering to arrange a meeting, talk through your dog’s care needs, and ensure their home is the right fit. We highly recommend a Meet & Greet when booking with a new sitter.
-
Will someone stay with my dog 24/7?
- Certain sitters offer 24/7 or “constant” care, staying with your dog day and night. This can be a great option for puppies, senior pets, dogs with medical needs, or those who struggle with being alone. Since round-the-clock care isn’t always part of a sitter’s base rate, it’s a good idea to mention “24/7 care” when contacting a sitter to discuss availability and qualifications.
-
Are there any luxury dog boarding experiences available?
- Yes. In-home boarding with premium features offers a more luxurious experience for dogs. These services may include perks such as allowing dogs on beds, supervised playtime in secure gardens, and personalised comforts tailored to each dog’s individual needs. Compared with traditional kennels, overnight stays in a sitter’s home tend to be quieter, more private, and less stressful.
General Vaccination Requirement
- All animals must be up to date with all annual vaccines to attend the Kennels or Cattery.
Kennel Cough Vaccine
- Recommended but not mandatory.
- If given, it must be administered at least 15 days prior to arrival.
Example: Vaccine on 2nd → Boarding can start from the 17th.
Vaccination Restart Course
- If your pet needs a restart, contact the our staff to confirm it won’t affect boarding.
- Restart involves two vaccines, typically 4 weeks apart.
- Boarding allowed only 15 days after the second vaccine.
Example: 1st vaccine on April 1st → 2nd on April 29th → Boarding from May 14th.
Leptospirosis Vaccine Changes
- Many vets are switching from Leptospirosis 2 (L2) to Leptospirosis 4 (L4).
- This change often requires a full vaccine restart, even without lapse.
Important Reminders
- Check vaccination cards to ensure all are up to date.
- If switching from L2 to L4, consult your vet and our staff to confirm compliance.
- Arriving within 15 days of the second vaccine may result in being turned away.
- The facility reserves the right to deny entry if vaccination timelines / policies are not met.
- Customers are asked to respect the policies and staff decisions.
