This Transportation Policy outlines how Pet Getaway ensures the safe and secure transport of dogs when vehicle travel is required.
Transport may be necessary for:
Emergency veterinary visits
Pre-arranged vet appointments
Relocation in an emergency (e.g. fire evacuation)
Agreed collection/drop-off services (if offered)
The safety and welfare of each dog is the primary consideration.
When transporting dogs, we ensure:
Secure containment at all times
Prevention of escape
Appropriate ventilation
Comfortable travel conditions
Continuous supervision
Compliance with welfare legislation
Dogs are never transported loose in a vehicle.
The vehicle used for transportation will:
Be roadworthy and insured
Have secure crates or dog seatbelt restraints
Be clean and hygienic
Provide adequate ventilation
Maintain safe internal temperature
Crates are:
Appropriate to the dog’s size
Secured to prevent movement
Used individually (no shared crates unless from same household)
To prevent escape or injury:
Dogs are placed on lead before exiting the property
Vehicle doors are checked before releasing dogs
Dogs are secured before engine start
Only one dog is unloaded at a time (unless same household)
Particular care is taken in car parks and roadside areas.
Dogs will never be left unattended in a vehicle in unsafe conditions.
During warm weather:
Travel times are minimised
Vehicle is ventilated before entry
Internal temperature checked
Water available if needed
During cold weather:
Travel time minimised
Dogs dried before transport if wet
Warm bedding used where appropriate

In case of medical emergency:
Dog transported immediately to nominated veterinary practice
Owner contacted as soon as safe to do so
Relevant health information carried where possible
Emergency contacts are stored in accessible format.
After transporting dogs:
Vehicle crates cleaned if soiled
Surfaces disinfected
Bedding washed if required
Cross-contamination avoided between dogs
Enhanced cleaning implemented following illness.
Owners must provide:
Emergency vet authorisation
Disclosure of travel anxiety
Disclosure of car sickness
We reserve the right to decline transport for dogs with severe travel-related distress unless essential for welfare.
Where transportation services are provided:
Appropriate motor insurance is maintained
Business use declared to insurer
Legal driving standards upheld
If transport is not part of the standard service, this will be clearly stated.
Transportation is only undertaken when:
Necessary
Safe
In the dog’s best interests
